All are injectable neuromodulators derived from botulinum toxin type A. They are used to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly in areas like the forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Despite their similarities, there are some key differences between them:

Active Ingredient: OnabotulinumtoxinA

Manufacturer: Allergan (now part of AbbVie)

Onset: Typically takes 3–7 days for results to become noticeable.

Duration: Effects last about 3–4 months on average.

Diffusion: Has a relatively precise and localized effect, making it ideal for smaller treatment areas.

FDA Approval: Approved for cosmetic use since 2002.

Brand: Xeomin by Merz Pharmaceuticals.

Approved Use: Used for moderate to severe frown lines.

Onset and Duration: Onset is typically within 3-4 days, and effects last 3-4 months.

Unique Characteristics: Xeomin is known as a “naked” neurotoxin because it contains no additives or complex proteins. This reduces the risk of developing resistance or antibodies against the product.

Active Ingredient: AbobotulinumtoxinA

Manufacturer: Ipsen and marketed by Galderma in the U.S.

Onset: Takes effect slightly faster than Botox, usually within 2–3 days.

Duration: Typically lasts 3–4 months.

Diffusion: Has a wider spread compared to Botox, which can be beneficial for treating larger areas, like the forehead, but may not be ideal for precision in small areas.

FDA Approval: Approved for cosmetic use in 2009.

Active Ingredient: PrabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs

Manufacturer: Evolus

Onset: Similar to Botox, taking about 3–7 days.

Duration: Effects last about 3–4 months.

Diffusion: Comparable to Botox, with a similar precision for small treatment areas.

FDA Approval: Approved for cosmetic use in 2019

Active Ingredient: DaxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm

Manufacturer: Revance

TherapeuticsOnset: Takes effect in 1–2 days.

Duration: Lasts longer than other neuromodulators, typically 6–9 months.

Diffusion: Similar to Botox, with a localized effect.

FDA Approval: Approved in 2022. This is the first botulinum toxin product to include a stabilizing peptide, which contributes to its extended duration.

Key Differences

Onset: Dysport and Daxxify tend to act faster than Botox and Jeuveau.

Duration: Daxxify lasts longer (up to 6–9 months), whereas the others typically last 3–4 months.

Formulation: Xeomin lacks complex proteins, reducing potential resistance. Daxxify’s unique peptide formulation is also a differentiator.

Diffusion: Dysport has a broader diffusion, which is useful for treating larger areas but less precise for small areas.

Approval and Target: Jeuveau is positioned as a cost-effective, aesthetic-only option.
