WEIGHT LOSS
SEMAGLUTIDE
Semaglutide is a medication that has been approved by the FDA for weight loss. It is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means it works by mimicking the effects of a hormone called GLP-1 that is naturally produced in the body. GLP-1 helps regulate appetite and food intake, and semaglutide works by activating GLP-1 receptors in the brain to reduce hunger and increase feelings of fullness.
In clinical trials, semaglutide has been shown to be effective for weight loss in overweight and obese individuals with or without type 2 diabetes. In one study, participants who took semaglutide lost an average of 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks, compared to just 2.4% for those who received a placebo. Semaglutide has also been shown to improve other health markers such as blood sugar control, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
It is important to note that semaglutide is not a magic pill for weight loss and should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program. It is also not recommended for everyone, including those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Semaglutide is a promising option for weight loss in certain individuals. However, as with any medication, it should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
